For help with:
Stuck? Wanting more out of life than you're getting?
The decision to seek help is a big one and can be overwhelming. It is important to find someone you not only feel comfortable with but who also has the skills to help you. I work with both adults and couples and the broad range of concerns they face. My goal is to help people move beyond the places where they are stuck or having difficulty and to arrive at a place where they can not just survive but actually thrive.
If you find yourself discouraged, depressed, stressed, anxious, frustrated and angry, or traumatized, unhappy, sad, or lonely, facing your personal ghosts or otherwise lost, confused and overwhelmed, now may be the time to seek help. I would be happy to assist you in the process of growth and moving to a better place where you can get more out of your life.
Psychologist & therapist servicing the Tri-Cities, Port Moody, Port Coquitlam, Coquitlam, New Westminster, Burnaby, Maple Ridge, and Pitt Meadows
Helping others through therapy since 1995.
My Experience
I earned my doctorate in Counselling Psychology from Andrews University in Michigan. I grew up on Vancouver Island and wanted to return to the area so completed my internship at Simon Fraser University and have lived in the area ever since.
Upon completing my internship, I continued working at Simon Fraser University’s Counselling Centre for an additional 5 years. My experience in the area also includes being in private practice since 1995 working with the broad range of concerns that face adults whether that be in the area of relationship(s) or personal concerns.
In the past, you may have seen the column I wrote called Mind Matters, in the local paper, the Tri-City News.
My Approach
I am trained in a variety of methods from Cognitive Behavioral strategies, to Body-Centred therapies, Trauma Oriented approaches (EMDR), Psychodynamic, Person-Oriented and Relationship perspectives, and some of the newer “power” centred therapies that can work faster and deeper than some of the traditional talk therapies. The centre where I work also has other health care professionals who can be of help if appropriate.
However, I believe that the best approach is one that fits for you. Usually a first session involves getting to know you and hearing about whatever is bothering you. From there, I usually provide some feedback on how we could work and some ideas for change.
I am always searching for the process that will work for you, since no one else is exactly like you. Sometimes you just need a place to talk and be heard, sometimes you may need some concrete feedback and advice, sometimes you may want to work on your childhood experiences, or on a relationship that is not working. Sometimes, you may not know what you need and I can provide some direction to help you figure it all out. Sometimes, you may want to work deeply in some areas of your life and at other times you may just want some quick feedback and ideas for the future. Whatever it is that you need, the most important thing is that we find a way to help you work through your concerns and thrive in your life. I would be happy to assist you in that process.
How Does It All Work?
My fees are generally covered by extended medical plans. Most plans have 80-100% coverage of my fees and most often do not require a referral from your doctor. You can call me directly to make an appointment but it is always a good idea to check all the particulars of your coverage since extended medical plans can vary quite a bit. If you are paying out of pocket, my fees can be claimed on your tax return as a medical expense.
Sessions are one hour and may be scheduled for just one session, or on a weekly, bi-weekly or monthly basis. Sessions are confidential so you can be comfortable to talk about what is bothering you. If you really want to work on a particular issue, it is often a good idea to schedule weekly appointments, at least initially, to get some momentum going. However, if your finances or schedule to do not allow weekly appointments, we can work accordingly.
My office is located at the address below. Give me a call and we'll go from there. I look forward to hearing from you.
